THE Block might be winning the fight for reality TV ratings but The X Factor is the show people want to back.

And Reigan Deery, everyone’s hot favourite to win The X Factor — especially, apparently, RedFoo’s — is actually second in the betting, behind reformed problem drinker Dean Ray, whose tortured rock and roll image is a money trap to punters. Sydnee Carter from Ronan Keating’s under 25s group is third behind Reigan.

But the show that trumps them all is Big Brother. Australians pour twice as much money into the outcome of this show as they do any other reality show. Sportsbet.com.au has opened the betting on the gender of this year’s winner ahead of the show’s start on September 8 and there’s some big money to be made if a transgender housemate emerges as the last person standing ($51) but substantially less if it’s a man ($1.50) or a woman ($2.50.)

The X Factor is on track to have a successful year, with over 70 bets already on and the show still with well over two months to go. It’s a consistent favourite with gamblers. In 2012 when Samantha Jade won some 1200 bets were placed. There were fewer bets last year but more money outlaid.
